Surviving and Staying Sane as a Creative Freelancer

Illustrated Freelancer’s Guide Workshop & Supper

Tuesday, 11th November 2025, 6pm – 8pm

Birchvale Theatre, Maxwell St, Dalbeattie DG5 4AG

This is the 4th edition of DG Unlimited’s annual Freelancer’s Guide workshop.

Being your own boss always sounds dreamy, but the reality can be very different. What do you do if the invoices go unpaid, work-life balance disappears, and you are tired if reminding people that “exposure” won’t pay the rent. This is a warm, lively, no-BS session which dives into the realities of freelance creative life: from finding clients and managing feast-or-famine income to setting boundaries and protecting your mental health. Expect practical tips, honest stories, and a chance to swap survival strategies with others in the same boat. Leave with tools, inspiration, and maybe even meet other freelancers to help secure your next gig. We will be referring to the latest edition of the Illustrated Freelancer’s Guide, n easy to reference guide, written by Heather Parry and illustrated by Maria Stoian, and published by Creative Scotland. This event is open to creative practitioners of any medium.

At the event you will receive a copy of the Illustrated Freelancer’s Guide, 4th Edition.

A light vegetarian supper of soup and bread will be served with teas and coffees. We will contact those booked on for their dietary requirements.

We are holding these events around Dumfries and Galloway: Thornhill in October, Dalbeattie in November, tbc in February, tbc in March
