We are delighted to highlight the Anne Brown Essay Prize, a wonderful opportunity for writers connected with Scotland to celebrate outstanding literary non-fiction and creative thinking.
The prize recognises exceptional essays by writers who are born in Scotland, resident in Scotland, or have a longstanding association with the country. Inspired by the legacy of Anne Brown, a dedicated champion of literary culture and former chair of the Wigtown Book Festival, the award is open to both published and unpublished writers with fresh, original voices.

- Entries on any subject are welcome, giving writers creative freedom to explore ideas that matter to them.
- The word limit is 4,000 words and there is no entry fee, making it widely accessible.
