Rebecca has been selected to support the Creative North Star project, where she will work alongside the Creative Director and the DG Unlimited team on their research project, Creative North Star: Developing Creative Talent Through Mentorship.
She was drawn to the project because of her love for the cultural sector in Dumfries and Galloway and her own experience of mentoring. Since moving to the region in 2013, Rebecca has worked for a number of arts organisations, including Wigtown Festival Company, Spring Fling (as it was then) and DG Unlimited.
More recently, she has worked in the wider charitable and communities sector, supporting organisations and the people in them to build their capacity, skills and confidence.
Rebecca was lucky to be chosen as a 2023 recipient of a Compass Bursary from Wigtown Festival Company, which included the opportunity to be mentored by a published author. The experience elevated her writing and she continues to write fiction that may one day have an audience.
She has also witnessed the transformational effect of being a mentor as part of a project for Scottish Government with women from marginalised communities and identities. As well as supporting women to have a voice with policy makers and those in positions of power, she learned a huge amount personally and professionally from each of the women she worked with.
She is looking forward to helping shape a mentoring framework for DG Unlimited, which recognises the uniqueness of our region along with its strengths and challenges.
