Popular Vote Winner Announced for Summer Exhibition

Dumfries and Galloway Fine Arts Society’s 99th Annual Exhibition concluded last weekend (15th August) at Gracefield Arts Centre with the announcement of the winner of the Visitors’ Award for most popular work.

Gary Craig won the vote with his oil painting On an Afternoon. This popular recognition goes hand in hand with Gary’s professional standing. Last year he was elected as an associate member of the Society of Graphic Fine Art.

Paul O’Keeffe, chair of the DAGFAS, said:

“Hats off to Gary, and a very big thank you to the hundreds of people who took part in the poll. And thank you to all the visitors to our 99th show. You made it one of our most visited exhibitions of recent times.

“And a well done to all the artists exhibiting. The public showed a really broad and enthusiastic appreciation for the show.”

The Society is now preparing for two special shows next year at Kirkcudbright Galleries and Gracefield Arts Centre, respectively, to celebrate its 100th year of exhibiting. The Society already hit the milestone of being one hundred back in 2022, but missed putting on exhibitions for some of those years, primarily because of World War II.
